Laser Eye Surgery, lasik eye surgery, lasek eye surgery

Laser eye surgery may be just the solution you're trying to find to help fix your vision problems.

Using the laser process a special laser is used to reshape the cornea, thereby giving the patient the ability to focus properly.

The results of this type of eye surgery are remarkable. Such is the improvement in vision that the vast majority of people who undergo this surgery totally eliminate their need for vision correction lenses.

Below we give you a simple overview of what is involved in the different areas of this form of laser surgery.

LASIK EYE SURGERY.

lasik eye surgery is without doubt one of the most discussed forms of vision correction. This type of eye surgery uses a laser to reshape the cornea. The laser is known as an Excimer.

This excimer is capable of reshapingthe surface of the cornea without producing heat. The eye surgeon creates a flap by making a very small incision in the outer layer of the cornea.

The flap is then folded back so that the laser is able to reshape the cornea to its optimal shape.

Once the laser has this performed the flap is then repositioned. The process lasts no longer than a few minutes, is practically pain free and the results are amazing.Read plenty of informative articles on LASIK EYE SURGERY here.

PRK laser eye surgery

differs from Lasik surgery as it concentrates its attention on the outer layer of the cornea.

This means that no incision is required to create a flap as is the case with lasik. Prk removes someof the outer corneal layer and then reshapes the surface underneath to optimal shape.

Patients who undergo this form of eye surgery require a longer recovery time than those that use LASIK eye surgery. This is because the outer corneal layer was removed and it needs time to re-grow.

Eye protection is generally needed for a few days and the general healing process is a little more involved than with lasik.

There are very good reasons why a patient would have this type of laser eye surgery as opposed to lasik surgery. people with exceptionally thin corneas or large eye balls are not suitable for LASIK eye surgery and so PRK surgery is the alternative. This decision will be made by the eye surgeon

LASEK laser eye surgery

This is an advancement onthe PRK process.Lasek uses a computer controlled laser. The computer maps the surface of the cornea and this information is then used to decide on the optimum corneal shape.

When all the information is ready to be used the laser is controlled by those pre-set guidelines. A 20 % alcohol solution is used to soften the corneal surface thereby helping make the re-surfacing process easier.

The fundamental differences with LASEK eye surgery as opposed to PRK and and LASIK are as follows.

1.LASEK patients have a shorter healing time than PRK.

2. LASIK eye patients do not undergo any incision or cutting process as is the case with LASIK.

3. LASEK is a computer led process, there is no pause in the process as there would be if the laser was hand held.

4. It is believed that LASEK laser eye surgery is 25% more effective than previous LASIK procedures.
